It seems that seasoned football veteran and Barcelona Captain Lionel Messi really knows how to stay in the limelight. He just set another La Liga goals record after he snatched a 4-0 win against Espanyol.
Messi inaugurated the scoring with an amazing free kick at RCDE stadium this Saturday. Ernesto Valverde’s men on the other hand were looking to open up a 3 point lead to remain at the top.

Messi’s mind boggling goal took his count up to 10 for the overall La Liga season. This makes him the first ever player to enter double figures in a whopping 13 consecutive La Liga seasons.

Messi was not done yet, and struck back with yet another free-kick goal in the 65th minute of the bout. That was his 11th strike of the season .It also happens to be the first time in Messi’s career that he has scored two free-kicks in a La Liga match.

“I try to follow a routine a bit, trying to do it the same way so that it goes well again,” Messi told Vamos.

He added “Other times I have a lot of free-kicks and I do not put them in. I was lucky enough to get two in a row.”

The Argentine  Football Prodigy finished 5th in this week’s Ballon d’Or voting behind the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann, Cristiano Ronaldo and of course the winner Luka Modric.

The 31-year-old captain also got an assist in Saturday’s clash, he set up Ousmane Dembele to double Barcelona’s lead.

Messi has managed to get 17 goals and 10 assists in only 17 games in all competitions as Barca lead the domestic table and are through to the last remaining-16 of the Champions League.

With Messi’s team enjoying a clear lead , Messi went on to praise their performance, saying: “We came out very strong to dominate the match from the start”.

“We kept the ball, we knew how to take it from the rival and Espanyol, without the ball, they suffer. They press high and we were superior at all times.” he further added.
