Who will be the first human on Mars?

July 26, 2019 by Aroos Gul

Alyssa Carson knew that she would be an astronaut when she was just three. She worked untiringly to achieve her goal. Soon she will be the first human to be on Mars and she will do it even it would mean never coming back to earth.

Alyssa Carson knew that she would be an astronaut when she was just three. She worked untiringly to achieve her goal. Soon she will be the first human to be on Mars and she will do it even it would mean never coming back to earth.

Carson told TNW that her fascination with space had started when she had watched an episode The Backyardigans of cartoons named A Mission to Mars . A poster for that episode (in which a group of friends had gone to imaginary adventure in their backyard which brought them to mars) had been there in her room wall for years.

Growing up, the imagination of Carson blew up with issues about space and space travel that eventually caused her to land on Mars today, America’s greatest opportunity.

She was the first and the youngest person (16 years old) ever who had graduated from the Advanced Space Academy, completed all of NASA’s seven Space Camps, and received the certification in applied astronautics.

This makes Carson formally licensed to fly and venture into space on a suborbital study flight, all before obtaining permission from her driver.

Carson said that she felt amazing in her teens when she was technically allowed to fly into space.

A private citizen science organization which works in developing the Final Frontier Space Suit Design, EVA known as Project PoSSUM has helped her to do preparations for her trip to Mars.

Carson said that their ultimate goal is to have a suborbital flight into the mesosphere the highest layer of the atmosphere and for this the upper atmosphere of earth is being studied, learned about different G-forces by simulating them in airplanes and they have trained themselves well in microgravity flights with spacesuits, water survival, decompression.

When are people going to go to Mars?

It seemed that a trip to Mars was only possible in The Backyardigans but it had already been announced by NASA a year back to launch a mission to the red planet by 2030. It is an apparent destination for human exploration since Mars is in our solar system. The prospective task of Carson to Mars will include looking for life forms, understanding the surface and evolution of the planet, and preparing for potential future colonization of humans.

Research has been carried out on one-way journeys to Mars including “Mars-One,” the Dutch organisation hoping to create on the red planet a permanent human colony and more lately, with its rocket, Space Launch System(SLS), NASA scheduled a return trip.

It’s a journey of 40 million miles through a frozen expanse of dark and deadly emptiness. Carson does not seem to be facing the harsh realities and dangers of traveling to Mars, not even the true risk of never returning to Earth.

This would imply Carson would be away from Earth for about two to three years on NASA’s scheduled return trip to Mars, and that’s not the worst component. As Martian pioneers ‘ aspiring carrier Elon Musk said in 2016: As Elon Musk, an aspiring carrier of Martian pioneers, said in 2016: “It’s hazardous and individuals are likely to die.” Musk said Monday that heat missiles would be “a wonderful study zone for NASA.” The SpaceX CEO outlined how the alternative to rocket fuel could mean quicker travel times around the solar system.

“The levels of radiation in space don’t scare me because I have been learning about it for so long and at this stage it’s just becoming a norm,” Carson said. “A feeling of fear has always been there that something might go wrong as there has never been a 100 percent secure mission to space. But I certainly think that a mission to Mars and all the advantages we can gain from it outweigh any of the hazards.

According to a study from the Population Reference Bureau (PRB), one of the primary reasons for visiting Mars is to colonize the planet as the world’s population could rise to 9.9 billion by 2050.

But issues arise as to whether beings deserve a second opportunity to inhabit a planet in view of the present climate crisis in which we are presently living.

“It’s kind of ironic because the things we do to Earth are precisely what we need to do to Mars,” Carson clarified. “It’s colder since Mars is further away from the sun and we need to heat it up. We’re doing this fairly effectively on Earth so I think we’ve got that ability down. “Carson hopes people will live on various planets in the future, including Jupiter.”

In the future, Carson hopes humans will inhabit multiple planets, including Jupiter. “Mars is our first level to learn how to live on new planets and how to adapt to a new planet.”

Are we looking for aliens?

Our solar system is incredibly large. There are about 300 billion stars in the Milky Way in terms of the amount of solar systems in the universe, so if 10 percent of them have planets that implies that there are about 30 billion planets in our galaxy alone. But that’s not all, it’s estimated that in the observable Universe there are over 100 billion galaxies for a total of 10 ^ 21 planets (that’s 1, followed by 21 zeros).

With all this (sort of) understood, it would be unaware of us to think that in the solar system we are the only living intelligent form of life. “The world is certainly too large to be us,” Carson added. “There’s a chance that bacteria live on Mars, as well as liquid water, frozen water, and steam on Mars at the equator — that’s part of why we want to go to Mars.” Apart from becoming possibly the first person to visit Mars, Carson hopes that her trip into space will inspire other women to pursue their dream.

But the more I’ve been working towards it, the more it becomes a truth. Carson said, “It was likely the most absurd dream I could have chosen when I was three and dreamed of being an astronaut and going to Mars. But the more I’ve been working towards it, the more it becomes a truth.”
