UK’s newest Foreign Minister Hunt to Urge EU to Impose fresh Sanctions on Russia

August 21, 2018 by Rana Hamza

Britain’s newest foreign Minister Jeremy Hunt, who came in the house in place of Boris Johnson this July is all set to urge the European Union to impose the fresh sanctions against Russia. Moreover, he would also ask EU to stand shoulder to shoulder with the US and increasing the sanctions on Russia. Hunt, who will be making his first speech since making it to the office, would push the audience with his stance Putin making this world “a more dangerous place.”

“Today the United Kingdom asks its allies to go further by calling on the European Union to ensure its sanctions against Russia are comprehensive, and that we truly stand shoulder to shoulder with the US,” Hunt will tell an audience in Washington DC.

Hunt will also be meeting the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo earlier this week and the agenda he is up with is to limit Russian interference into Western democracies, which are rising up as some serious threats to the democracies’. Moreover, Hunt would also urge the EU authorities and other stakeholders to increase the sanctions on Russia, more than what they are now, financial restrictions and arms exports.

Britain is eyeing EU to impose the latest sanctions in wake of the Salisbury Attack, which killed the former spy. Security personnel could smell the Russian interference into all this right from the very first day since the assassination attempt. It should be noted here that the attack was plotted to kill, who acted as the double agent for the UK’s intelligence services in the 90’s.
