The United Arab Emirates (UAE) now holds the world’s most powerful passport.

The UAE recently overtook Singapore and Germany which had the most powerful passport prior to this. This has allowed UAE passport holders to gain entry in 167 countries without a prior visa – 113 visa-free countries, 54 on arrival with 31 requiring a visa, according to Passport Index.

The Peninsula jumped to first position on 1 December 2018 after the addition of 4 more countries to its list of Visa-Free destinations. Previously, it was ranked as third powerful passport holder region.

Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai, congratulated on Twitter by saying, “Congratulations to the UAE and its people and big thanks to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation’s teams.”
