November 10, 2018 by Sourav Das

Legendary Armenian weightlifter Simon Martirosyan has created two new world records while winning the gold medal at the 109 kg category in the 2018 IWF World Championships. He has achieved the top place and created world record while lifting 240 kg in the clean & jerk event. Besides, he also created the new world record for lifting 435 kg in total.

However, he missed the top place in the snatch event by just a kilo and lifted 195 kg. Chinese weightlifter Yang Zhe has got the top place in the snatch event with 196 kg under his name. Russian weightlifter Rodion Bochkov has got the third place in the snatch event with 190 kg.

While talking about his world record performance, Simon Martirosyan said “I knew I will have a lot of strong competitors. I just did the same thing I always do, I gave my best.” On the other hand, Nurudinov failed to fulfill the expectation and said “This is more than I expected tonight. I was unfortunately sick all week. I had temperature and I feel week.”
