Pakistan’s COAS Bajwa confirms Death Sentences for 13 Hardcore Taliban Militants

September 10, 2018 by Rana Hamza

Pakistan’s COAS Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa ratified the death penalty of 13 hardcore terrorists after the Military court convicted them of heinous terrorist activities like attacking security enforcement agencies, killing civilians and destroying educational institutes as well.  Apart from this notification issued by ISPR(Inter Services Press Release) through the press release, it is also being told that 7 other criminals were awarded an imprisonment sentence by the Military Court.

These 13 hardcore terrorists are said to be behind the killing of 202 people, out of which 151 were civilians and 51 were from Armed Forces/Frontier Constabulary/ Police Officials. According to the ISPR’s press release, arms and explosives were also recovered from the possession of the convicted terrorists.

It should be noted here that Pakistan resumed military courts in wake of the 2014 horrific attack at Army Public School Peshawar, which took the lives of more than 150, out of which most of them were students.  This terrorist attack also pushed Pakistan’s top brass to discuss the matter even more seriously and in response to that a military operation, Radd-ul-Fasaad was also launched. Not only this, the National Action Plan (NAP) was also imposed to curb the terrorism from its roots.

After setting up the special military courts for severe terrorism cases, the next step was the waiving off the moratorium on the death penalty. It should be noted here that Pakistan has been facing serious terrorism from more than a decade and has been trying very best to eradicate this menace which seems to be cut off to quite a much extent as compared to the previous years.
