Lone Person from South Carolina Wins Mega Millions Jackpot

October 24, 2018 by Alex Burnstein

A lone person in South Carolina has just won the $1.537 billion jackpot.

The winner is yet to be revealed but the question lies whether he will walk away with $878 million or wait 29 years for the full payment of $1.537 billion which will be paid in annuities.

The numbers were drawn on Tuesday night which were 5, 28, 62, 65, 70 and the Mega Ball number was 5. According to Mega Millions, only one person matched all the numbers to winning the jackpot. While a total of 36 tickets, nationwide, matched five out six numbers for second prize.

This years jackpot was just shy of breaking the the $1.586bn Powerball tickets record which was set in 2016. However, it managed to smash the 2012 Mega Millions record of $656 million.

Gordon Medenica, Lead Director of the Mega Millions group, said, “This is truly a historic occasion. We’re so happy for the winner, and we know the South Carolina Education Lottery can’t wait to meet the lucky ticket holder.”

The Mega Millions lottery is played in 44 States, including Washington D.C and the Virgin Islands.
Moreover, the next draw for the lotto is said to be drawn on Friday where the jackpot will be reset to $40million or $22.8million.
