International Weightlifting Federation has organized the 2017 World Weightlifting Championships from 28th November to 5th December 2017 in Anaheim, United States. All the participating nations had sent their representatives other than North Korea and Venezuela due to their relation crisis with the United States. Surprisingly, the IWF has banned countries like Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Moldova, Armenia, Belarus, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan to participate in the 2017 edition of the tournament as their weightlifters were tested positive for using banned substances.
Among the participating nations, Mexico has beaten other nations to achieve the highest number of medals, with 15 of them earned by their athletes. Iran held the second spot with 14 medals and Georgia has secured the third place with 7 medals. The Iranian men’s’ weightlifting team has achieved 509 points, the most in the last edition of the tournament. Besides, the Thai women’s team has achieved 495 points to secure the top place.
