Indonesia Tsunami 2018 Update: Death Toll Rises to 429 ; Thousands left Homeless

SUMUR, Indonesia – One of the deadliest tsunamis in the recent years hit Indonesia on Saturday Night without warning. The Tsunami left utter devastation behind claiming 420+ innocent souls , injuring 1400 and leaving thousands homeless.

Coastal areas of western Java and Southern Sumatra were directly affected by the Tsunami – leaving thousands displaced from their homes.

Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, a Disaster Agency spokesman told press that the death toll had risen to 429 as of Tuesday 25 December 2018. He also stated that 128 people are still missing.

Government Personnel and Military Troops alongside volunteers are searching the debris flooded beaches and demolished homes. Body bags are being laid out wherever the search teams discover dead bodies.

Christmas 2018 was observed in Indonesia with simplicity and prayers for the Tsunami Victims. Several Churches around Indonesia did not celebrate Christmas in mourning of the recent natural disaster. Indonesia is predominantly Muslim with a minority of Christians, Hindus and other religions. Church leaders around Indonesia urged all Christians to offer special prayers for victims of the tsunami.
