At the China International Big Data Industry Expo in Guiyang, the founder and chairman of Alibaba, Jack Ma, said: “Poverty in China needs to be addressed from its source, including changing the unbalanced allocation of educational and medial resources to these less developed areas. Today, with the help of big data and the internet, Chinese farmers can earn more money from the land they live on.”
Alibaba recently contributed $1.5 billion to its Poverty Relief Fund which will now work for the environmental improvements and also spread the knowledge in the countryside of China by using technology. However, China already took 12.89 million people out of poverty last year according to the National Bureau of Statistics, but still, there are 30.46 million more those are living below the national poverty line.
The president of Alibaba Cloud Computing, Hu Xiaoming, recently expressed that the company will soon begin the training of 8,000 students and technical workers in the Guizhou province. The project will run for the following three years and will help the trained people to connect with the business partners of Alibaba to finally solve the employment-related problem. And while talking about the project, Hu said: “We are trying to produce blood instead of transfusing blood.”
Alibaba also expressed that the poverty relief project will not only just work to eradicate poverty but also work to enhance the education and health levels of the low-income Chinese people. They will work to improve the ecological environmental conditions, and will also help the poor people to sell more products through the online marketplace of Alibaba.
