Zinedine Zidane praises Thibaut Courtois while calling him phenomenal against Deportivo Alaves

July 11, 2020 by Sourav Das

Real Madrid maintained their clean sheet in five matches consecutively, all thanks to the Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. They again ended the match in a 2-0 win against Deportivo Alaves last night. And, Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane praises the goalkeeper while calling him phenomenal after marking four saves in the game.

Karim Benzema scored the first goal for Real Madrid last night in a penalty. Shortly after, the team bagged the victory with Marco Asensio’s goal in the second half. However, their rival clubs started accusing the team as they were given a penalty in three straight games. Many media houses also accused Real Madrid of the VAR controversy.

While talking about the Belgian goalkeeper, Zinedine Zidane said, “He has a very big influence. He is our goalkeeper, what he is doing every game is phenomenal.” He then added, “It is a matter for everyone when it comes to defending … today, he [Courtois] has been good for us with two or three stops, and then the strength of the entire team.”

Zidane said, “We have to continue like this.” He said, “I’m not worried because the important thing is to win matches,” and then added, “We didn’t score four or five goals, but because there is an opponent who defends. We scored two goals, one very beautiful in play.” The coach then said, “I am happy and calm with what we are doing.”

Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane also talked about the VAR controversy and said to Movistar, “Outside noise doesn’t matter to us. We are focused on winning and giving everything on the pitch,” and then added, “We don’t control the VAR, we control the effort and attitude we show on the pitch.”

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu recently also accused Real Madrid and said, “I watched San Mames match until almost the end of the second half. I feel bad because we have the best league in the world and VAR after coronavirus isn’t fair.” He said, “It has changed some results and always favors the same team.”
