Zinedine Zidane denies his reported problem with Real Madrid star Luka Jovic

September 21, 2020 by Sourav Das

Real Madrid recently faced a goalless draw against Real Sociedad this Sunday. However, Los Blancos manager Zinedine Zidane kept Luka Jovic on the bench throughout the match while everyone is expecting that he would have been a great addition to the game.  The reigning champion of La Liga maintained their dominance in ball possession throughout the match.

However, the Spanish champions failed to finish the ball in the right way as just 4 shots out of 16 were at the target. Besides, Real Madrid is now heavily feeling the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale in the attacking half. Despite having the gap, Zidane chooses to go for Sergio Arribas and Marvin Park during the last half of the game.

While talking about Luka Jovic, Zinedine Zidane said, “I didn’t want to change the formation. So, I could have put on another center-forward by taking one-off, but I didn’t want to change the formation.” He said, “I’d have had to take [Karim] Benzema off, but he was playing well. By playing two center-forwards, I would have needed to change the formation yet I wanted to keep two wingers on the wings.”

Zinedine Zidane said, “We have a squad and many players and I have to choose. Today, this is how I picked things. But, I don’t have anything against any player. Like I said before, I didn’t want to change the formation.” He further added, “We always want to win, so it’s a little bit like two points dropped. We had a few chances in the first half. I think we had a good game in defense, but we lacked something in attack.”

Zidane further said, “Physically we dropped off, but I think that’s normal. We only had three weeks [of pre-season] and we only had one friendly match.” The Real Madrid manager then further added, “I am happy with his match. I think he’ll get it little by little. But we have to be patient with him and with everyone.”

While analyzing the game and what they could do in the match, the Real Madrid manager said, “We always want to win, so it’s a little bit like two points dropped. We had a few chances in the first half. I think we had a good game in defense, but we lacked something in attack. Physically we dropped off, but I think that’s normal. We only had three weeks [of pre-season] and we only had one friendly match.”
