Sergio Ramos wants Lionel Messi to stay at FC Barcelona for the sake of La Liga

September 5, 2020 by Sourav Das

The whole football world stood still after Lionel Messi expressed his wish to leave Barcelona after serving as their talisman since his childhood days. And that decision came after new manager Koeman released Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez. Besides, FC Barcelona also faced a tragic 8-2 defeat against Bundesliga side Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League.

However, FC Barcelona’s archrival Real Madrid took a different stand in the transfer rumor of the Argentine football legend. Los Blancos captain and Spanish international, Sergio Ramos, believes that Lionel Messi should stay at Camp Nou. But on the contrary, he also believed that Messi also earned his right to choose his own future.

While talking about the transfer scenario of Lionel Messi, Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos said, “It’s something that we’re not focused on but the player has earned the right to be able to decide on his future.” He said, “Having said that, for the Spanish game and for Barca and for the rest of us, we’d like him to stay as we always want the best around.”

Ramos said, “It’s something that we have yet to address but something that neither I nor those at the club are anxious about.” He further added, “I’ve spent years with Real Madrid and never really contemplated leaving and am confident that we’ll reach a mutually suitable arrangement. My focus is now on preparing for a solid season ahead.”

The Real Madrid defender said, “I’m looking at taking things one game at a time and we’ll have to wait and see.” He also talked about the upcoming La Liga season amid the Coronavirus pandemic. Ramos said, “This is set to be one of the most complex seasons with games set to be played every three days due to the tight schedule.”

On the other hand, Luka Modric said, “It would be a huge loss. Like when Cristiano left. But you can’t think about the past. It’s football and that’s it.” The Croatian star then added, “If it happens it will be a huge loss for the prestige of the league. But we need to go forward. Other players will become stars.”
