Ronald Koeman confirmed that Luis Suarez will remain at the squad if he chose to stay at FC Barcelona

September 17, 2020 by Sourav Das

FC Barcelona displayed a tragic performance in the 2019-20 football season. They lost both La Liga and UEFA Champions League to their rival clubs. And that performance forced their former manager Quique Setien to resign from his position last month. Following the arrival of new manager Ronald Koeman, it is almost clear the Uruguayan star Luis Suarez won’t get his place at the first squad.

Right after the news became public, Juventus showed their interest to get the Uruguayan star on their side. According to some reports, the Italian Serie A side offered him a s$12 million deal for three years. However, Koeman put a twist in this tell after he announced that the star player will not lose his place at the first squad if he stays back.

While talking about the Uruguayan footballer, FC Barcelona’s new manager Ronald Koeman told TV3, “Suarez will be one more [member of the squad] if he stays.” The Dutch manager said, “I was talking to Luis this morning. We will wait to see if there is a way out or not. We respect contracts and, from day one, we have said that if he stays on the squad, it will be one more.”

The manager also talked about Coutinho and said, “He is in high spirits at the moment, training and playing well.” He added, “He has great quality. We must bear in mind that he needs the support of the coach and the fans.” Koeman further said, “The important thing is to participate in training sessions and friendlies. If I had to highlight one young player I would say Konrad, but Pedri and Riqui also have a great future ahead of them.”

Barcelona technical secretary Ramon Planes recently said, “Luis is an important player for Barcelona and has been for many years.” He added, “We have to have a lot of respect for players who have given so much [to the club] but we are in a process of change. We have a new coach and new ideas.”

Ramon said, “We must respect the players’ contracts but until October 5 many things can happen.” He then further added, “We have been working for months on improving the team and looking for players for the new stage of the team, that mix of experience and quality. Not everyone can play at such a big club.”
