Phil Jones admits Manchester United were a ‘laughing stock’ under Jose Mourinho

The Manchester United defender heavily criticized their former coach Jose Mourinho as Phil Jones admits Red Devils were a ‘laughing stock’ under him. Besides, the center-back also admits that the squad is now heading in the right direction at Old Trafford. This criticism came after their former coach was sacked in last December.

During his time with Manchester United, Jose Mourinho created unrest with several Red Devils squad members, especially Paul Pogba. Besides, they also faced an extremely poor run in the Premier League. They previously lost their chance in the UEFA Champions League and faced a tragic defeat against Liverpool by 3-1.

Since the Norwegian coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over, the Old Trafford side made an unbelievable improvement as they are now undefeated in their last 11 matches. Besides, they are now also climbed to the fourth place of the Premier League table. They are now having a high hope against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League first-leg last-16 fixture next Tuesday.

While talking about their current performance, Manchester United defender Phil Jones said, “Everyone’s got to take us seriously now.” He then added “We might have been a bit of a laughing stock at the beginning of the season but we’re certainly not now. We’ve proven that in the last 10 or 12 games. We’re improving, we’re still getting better.”

The defender said “It was tough for everyone involved. The club, the supporters, everyone. But it’s about becoming stronger and seeing that through.” He then further added, “I’ve said it in the past, we’ve not achieved anything yet, we’re under no illusions but we’re heading in the right direction.”

Phil Jones said “We knew we could get into the top four. It’s a big statement from where we were. We just need to keep improving and keep picking up points.” He also added “Consistency is key in any sport and it’s no different here. We’re putting a run together, we need to keep the momentum going and pick up points. It’s a tough period coming up, but these are the games you want to play in, the games you want to be available for. Bring it on!”
