Pep Guardiola believes Manchester City players are struggling for the hectic football schedule of this season

Manchester City had a great season last year as they did quite well in the English Premier League as well as in the UEFA Champions League. However, Man City manager Pep Guardiola is quite frustrated with the football schedule of this season. He openly expressed his grief while stating that the schedule was extremely hectic and no one thought about the players while making it.

The Premier League side recently bagged a Carabao Cup victory against Bournemouth last week. However, the City manager declared that he now has just 13 fit players in the playing condition. He also expressed that the team failed to bounce back into full fitness due to the extremely short preseason schedule.

While talking about the current scenario in the Manchester City squad, Pep Guardiola openly said, “The reality is what it is. It is not just Man City, it is all the clubs and countries. Nobody cares about the players.” The successful manager then also expressed while blaming the league officials, “Everyone – the Premier League, UEFA, EFL – have defended their own business and position.”

The Manchester City manager then talked about the packed schedule of this season and said, “The players had a two-week pre-season and now they have to play every three days for 11 months. We will not change anything saying the opposite.” He then further added, “I understand it is an exceptional situation for everyone – restaurants, theatres, cinemas, museums.”

Pep Guardiola said, “Everyone is struggling. We are not an exception. We have to believe in what we are doing and try and play a good game”. He then again added, “We have three players who came back from national teams injured. We cannot control that. They let them play two games in four days without preparation. They are not machines.”

He also talked about giving more chances to the players from the Manchester City academy. The manager said, “With the situation, we have right now, we need players from the academy. We have just 13 players fit.” He added, “Jason Wilcox is the academy boss who helps us have these players. That’s why you have the academy. When you need players we can use it. It depends on the quality of the player.”
