Despite having a decent stint in the Premier League, Manchester United failed to deliver their best in the Carabao Cup. After reaching the semifinals, Red Devils faced a tragic defeat against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the cup. John Stones scored the first goal for Manchester City while Fernandinho sealed the deal of Manchester Derby with a 2-0 score in their favor.
Manchester City, on the other hand, has a great run in the Carabao Cup. They are the reigning champions of the cup with the last three consecutive victories. Pep Guardiola’s side also won the prestigious FA Cup in the 2018-19 English football season. They will now face Tottenham Hotspur at their home ground Wembley this April for the final battle of the Carabao Cup.

While talking about their performance against Manchester City, Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said, “Manchester City can score many great goals. You can accept that. When you concede two simple set-plays, it’s very disappointing. Just not good enough in those moments.” He added, “We didn’t create enough big chances. They didn’t either. We didn’t have the extra finesse we’ve had in the games lately. We weren’t good enough today.”
Red Devils manager said, “We played against a very good Manchester City team. They played well. When they play well you have to play very well to beat them. We were just lacking that little bit.” He then further added, “We’re getting closer. This is a much better version of United than a year ago in those semis.”

The Norwegian boss of Manchester United said, “It’s not psychological [losing in four semi-finals]. Sometimes you meet good teams in the semis. We met City who, at the moment, is probably the best team in England.” On the other hand, former Red Devils captain Keane said, “Fernandes has had great praise and over the past month people have been comparing him to people like Eric Cantona etcetera. But Cantona [won trophies].”
The former Manchester United captain said, “Fernandes didn’t really do much tonight. The top players turn up on the big occasions, and that’s what the Cantona’s used to do to get their hands on trophies. And that’s where this team is a little bit short.” He then added, “They’ll probably need one or two more players to come into the squad, no doubt, and the mentality they need – may be the confidence of winning this semi-final to get them over the line and then you get momentum.”
