It isn’t that easy to fill in the boots of Cristiano Ronaldo, who is arguably the GOAT footballer and Real Madrid has been in quest of searching someone to fill in the void left by Portuguese star following move to Juventus. But it seems like Real Madrid has found someone, at least good enough to carry on with Ronaldo’s iconic Number 7 shirt. And it’s none other than Mariano Diaz, who rejoined Real Madrid back this week through buyback clause which made him play Olympique Lyonnais in 2017.

The striker was moved to Ligue 1 last year to play for Lyon for €8m (£6m) from Real Madrid buy now as the boss Lopetegui wanted more depth in the striking option, The Dominion and Spanish nationality striker was called back through €23m (£18.6m) transfer. The time would better decide how good actually Diaz is to replace CR7 but one can’t negate his superb performance at Ligue 1 where he managed to score 18 goals from 37 games.
It will be pertinent to mention here that Real Madrid was keen to snap up stars like Mbappe and Neymar but PSG didn’t seem interested about either of the option. Mariano’s comeback lately to Real Madrid suggests that no bigwig star was there under the radar of Spanish club to replace Ronaldo and they would go with 25-years old Mariano for this huge task.
Here are some of the Tweets which would actually let you know what fans think of Mariano replacing Cristiano’s Number 7 jersey at Real Madrid:
– 18 Ligue 1 goals (> than Mbappé)
– 43min per G/A at Madrid
– 25 goals for Castilla as a supersub (most for a Castilla player in 1 season)
You can critize him for a lot of things, but he is damn good at scoring goals, and that’s what we need right now.

Real Madrid do the buy-back thing better than most. Allows the player to feel more settled at new club than a loan, and pre-agreed fee keeps cost of re-signing down if they thrive. Mariano Diaz the perfect example

Mariano Diaz is the real deal. The guy has more Champions League medals than Lewandowski, Dybala, Mbappe, Lukaku and any other phony striker you can think of… COMBINED. Narrow it down to the last three years and Messi is a pauper pic.twitter.com/R695NfKTGm

Another Florentino Perez masterstroke imo. Ligue 1 doesn’t allow buyback so we just did this first refusal thing and waited for someone to offer.
