Luka Modric defended Gareth Bale saying that the Welshman never had problems in Real Madrid

October 7, 2020 by Sourav Das

Welsh forward Gareth Bale recently took his transfer from Spanish La Liga side Real Madrid to the English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur. He joined the Spurs on a season-long loan that has the possibility of extension for a couple of more seasons to follow. However, his former teammate Luka Modric believes that Bale has an immense contribution to the success of Los Blancos.

The Croatian star expressed that Bale never had problems in the Santiago Bernabeu dressing room. He also said that the Real Madrid fans should remember him for his contribution to the club. During his time with Real Madrid, the welsh forward achieved four UEFA Champions League along with two La Liga trophies and a Copa del Rey.

While talking about Gareth Bale, Luka Modric told COPE, “I have been with Gareth most of my professional life and he is a spectacular guy.” He added, “He is shy, similar to me.”  He further added, “What is said about him is not fair, they judge him in recent years but what he has done at Madrid is something impressive and he will always be remembered as a player who has done a lot for the club.”

The Croatian midfielder said, “He has never had any problems in the dressing room, he is a great guy. He spoke Spanish, he joked with us.” The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner then further added, “In recent years many things have come out and they have forgotten what he has done. When time passes they will remember him and how important he has been.”

Luka Modric then also talked about the behavior of the new Tottenham recruit in the Los Blancos dressing room. He said, “Every person has their own behavior. He was like that, he didn’t associate much, but in the dressing room, he was very good. It makes me sad that everything he has done has been forgotten in the last year.”

The Real Madrid midfielder said, “It is not a comfortable situation for him.” While talking about Hazard, he added, “He has come to show that he is one of the best players in the world and I am sure he will prove it this year. When he was good he has shown that he will be important, but injuries stopped him. It’s a shame because we need him and he will show why Madrid paid so much for him.”
