Joe Cole believes Raheem Sterling has every aspect to become the all-time Premier League great

February 12, 2019 by Sourav Das

The Manchester City forward continues to perform extremely well in this season too. And, the former English international Joe Cole believes Raheem Sterling has the potential to become the greatest footballer of the Premier League. The young forward displayed his talent last season for the Citizens while scoring 18 times in the league.

Raheem Sterling recently scored a brilliant brace in Manchester City’s 6-0 thrashing of Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium. And with that win, his team also claimed the top position of the Premier League. It is the first time since last December that Pep Guardiola’s squad achieved the top place of the domestic table.

Former international Joe Cole seems pretty impressed with the performance of Manchester City, especially with Raheem Sterling. While talking about his brilliant goals, Joe Cole said, “I think he’s turned himself into a top, top player.” The former player then added, “And a lot of credit has to go to Pep Guardiola and people like that.”

He said “The lad takes on lessons and you look at the positions he takes up and the amount of goals he scores now and, at the age he’s at, there’s still extra levels to go.” He then further added “We could be talking in five years’ time of Raheem Sterling being one of the top Premier League players of all time if he keeps on winning trophies, keeps on scoring goals.”

Manchester City opted for his $63 million transfer from the Reds way back in 2015. And since then, Sterling made 158 appearances for the Sky Blues while scoring 58 times. Besides, the young forward also helped his side to win the Premier League last season. Moreover, he also lifted the League Cup twice till now with his side.

Joe Cole said “The great thing about him is — because he’s taken a move from Liverpool to Manchester — there’s been a lot of weight on his shoulders. He’s taken that on and he looks almost mentally indestructible at the moment.” The star then added “Just to get in that team is a feat in itself, but he’s one of the top players in that team. And that is some going, and we should feel lucky and proud to have him as an English player and playing in our national team.”
