Iker Casillas ranks his former Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo much higher than Lionel Messi

October 11, 2020 by Sourav Das

Without any doubt, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are the two most iconic figures in the history of modern football. Since they entered the professional circuit, they almost dominated the football, let it be on the club level, or on the international circuit. And, the two maestros also share the most prestigious football award, Ballon d’Or, a record eleven times till now.

While both the Argentine and the Portuguese legend have cemented their places in the list of greatest footballer ever, the debate is still on to decide the real GOAT. However, CR7’s former Real Madrid teammate and legendary goalkeeper, Iker Casillas, favors Ronaldo over Messi. The Spanish goalie said that Cristiano Ronaldo deserved much more praises for his footballing prowess.

While talking about Cristiano Ronaldo, Iker Casillas told ESPN, “Cristiano always had huge desire to be the best, ever since he was a boy and I believe he has achieved that.” He said, “If I have to compare him to Messi, what Cristiano has done is more impressive because we all know the talent Messi has, but Cristiano was determined and worked hard to be the best.”

The former Real Madrid goalkeeper said, “I feel we have been lucky to have been able to enjoy two phenomenal players.” The star then went on to myth-busting and revealed the real side of the Portuguese star. The Spanish goalkeeper said, “For people that don’t know Cristiano, he can appear to be cocky and arrogant, but it’s totally the opposite.”

He said, “I was very fortunate with how things turned out, sadly it’s not the case for everyone. It has changed me, you must do the things you like doing and live your life.” The star then further added, “I have spoken to people that I had not spoken to for a long time. I now live day to day, focus on what I can do today, and not worry about tomorrow or next week.”

Recently Dynamo Kyiv boss Mircea Lucescu also expressed his opinion about Cristiano Ronaldo. He said, “He is like Maradona, he leaves his imprint on teams wherever it is that he plays.” The Kyiv coach then added, “Facing CR7 is always worrying because he loves scoring and has a unique determination.”
