Giuseppe Marotta insisted that they have never doubted Mauro Icardi right after Inter Milan stripped of his captaincy

Right after the Serie A club stripped of the captaincy from Mauro Icardi, Inter Milan chief executive Giuseppe Marotta insisted that they have never doubted the professionalism of the star. Following a failed negotiation about his contract extension, the Italian club recently removed the star from the captain’s position.

The 25-year-old star forward was recently absent from Inter’s Europa League clash with Rapid Vienna and Serie A game against Sampdoria. Icardi is now also linked with his potential move to several clubs such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester United. Besides, he did not take part in Inter’s winning celebration following their victory over Sampdoria.

The recent situation of the club stripping the captain’s band from Icardi is dominating the sports headlines in Italy. And to speak on club’s behalf, Giuseppe Marotta used Mediaset program ‘Tiki Taka’ to speak to Icardi’s wife and agent. Wanda Nara, on the other hand, recently told that it was a major setback for the Argentine star.

While talking about Mauro Icardi, Inter Milan boss Giuseppe Marotta said “We want to relax the situation, because the decision was made as we’ve said because the head of a family at times has to make some decisions to help the children grow.” He said “Mauro is 25 years old, he has a road ahead of him and experience to earn.”

He added, “I tried explaining it personally, as did the coach. I just wanted to reassure Wanda, as I was sad to see her cry, but wanted to make clear what we do is for the good of Inter, of Mauro, of the fans who make so many sacrifices for this club.” The CEO then said “I won’t get into the reasons here, but it was right to make this decision. Nothing is compromised.”

Giuseppe Marotta said “I wish to clarify we have never doubted the player’s commitment or professionalism. We’ll meet soon to discuss this issue, if she wants, but we have already agreed on an appointment to present a new contract proposal.” He then further added, “Again, they are free to accept or reject the offer. Nothing is compromised. Forza Inter.”
