Real Madrid faced Premier League side Manchester United in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League last-16 at the end of February this year. And, they faced a tragic defeat with a 2-1 score. However, the second leg of the last-16 is yet to be played as UCL faced an unintentional pause due to the current pandemic situation.
However, Real Madrid displayed a brilliant performance following the resume of La Liga. They not only defeated their archrival Barcelona but also achieved La Liga’s title. And now, they are all set to face the Red Devils in the second leg of the UCL. But, several football pundits still favor Manchester United over Real Madrid in the upcoming clash.
Emmanuel Adebayor believes Real Madrid would have defeated Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League
While talking about the last defat, former Real Madrid striker Emmanuel Adebayor told AS, “If you had asked me that question two years ago, I would have said yes [Madrid can turn the tie around],” and then added, “Madrid would have been favorites with Cristiano. Back then, they had Cristiano, who is a goal machine. He can make the difference at any moment and he would give the team 50 goals a season.”
The former star said, “They lost the first leg at home and it’s going to be very difficult without the fans, against Manchester City, the city, the weather but it’s not impossible.” While talking about Madrid, he said, “Madrid have players with a lot of experience like Marcelo, [Karim] Benzema, [Thibaut] Courtois and they are used to playing in big games like this one.”

Emmanuel Adebayor said, “Without Cristiano, Madrid know what they have lost, but maybe not what they could have won if he was still there,” and then further added, “I think maybe they thought they would get another player like Ronaldo but players like him only come along once every 200 years.”
He said, “When Ronaldo left, he had to take up the responsibility and I think he’s done really well,” and then added, “He’s scored a lot of goals, important goals so he’ll be a danger, no doubt about it.” The star then talked about Mourinho and said, “I love Mourinho, we had a great relationship and he was the one who brought me to Madrid, although it wasn’t easy for him to find a place for me in the side.”
