Benzema Shines for Real Madrid in the Absence of Ronaldo

September 2, 2018 by Sarmad Masood

Finally, the things seem to be shaping up nicely for Karim Benzema, after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo. The player who some believe was living under the shadow of ex Real Madrid ace, Ronaldo, has finally emerged as a leading forward for the club. Saturday night at Santiago Bernabeu saw Karim Benzema score twice against Leganes, helping Real Madrid grab their third consecutive victory in the league.

Karim Benzema Shines for Real Madrid in La Liga

Real Madrid got lead early in the 16th minute as Gareth Bale managed to get the ball past the keeper from inside the box. Leganes came back to score from the penalty spot in the 24th minute. This was followed by Benzema’s first goal of the match. The Frenchman showed composure to score a calm header from a cross by Marco Asensio in the 48th minute. Benzema’s second goal and Real Madrid’s 3rd goal came in the 61st minute as the French striker danced outside the box dribbling across couple of defenders to deliver a fantastic strike from just outside the box. The last goal of the match was scored by Sergio Ramos in the 65th minute from the penalty spot.

“Benzema is the top goalscorer in La Liga currently; so far this season, having netted four times under new Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui.”

The striker already seem to be having the best start to a season for Real Madrid.

He has scored 4 goals in 3 matches this season and is currently the leading goal scorer of La Liga followed by strike partner Gareth Bale.

Earlier, this was a feat that could only be associated to Cristiano Ronaldo as Benzema and Bale played in the supporting roles to the Real Madrid legend.

Real Madrid is currently leading the table and many are associating with the tremendous form of Karim Benzema who according to many could not show his full potential in the previous seasons. Finally as he seems to have gotten bigger responsibility and better and more consistent role in the starting lineup, he seems to be delivering well.

Now, it would be a challenge for Benzema to continue his form and deliver more than 30 goals this season for a chance to claim the consistency and a leading role for the club. It would be interesting to see how things shape out for the Frenchman and if he is able to fill in the gap created by the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.
