Most Sixes in International Cricket: Shahid Afridi congratulates Chris Gayle for equaling the record

August 4, 2018 by Rana Hamza

Whenever you come across the word ‘sixer’, the first person to come in your mind would be Shahid Afridi or Chris Gayle.  It would be better to define both of them as the Picasso of six-hitting art. The Pakistan legend got the title ‘Boom Boom’ for his six-hitting habit, whereas the Caribbean giant is called ‘World Boss’ for hitting towering sixes very frequently. The reason why we writing all this is Chris Gayle has equalled the record of hitting the most number of sixes in the international cricket, across all three formats of the game. The Pakistani star had been there on the top for so long with hitting 476 sixes across all three formats of the game, and up the latest, Chris Gayle has joined him up there with hitting five sixes against Bangladesh in 3rd ODI.

It should be noted here that Shahid Afridi is up there with smashing 476 sixes in 524 matches, whereas Gayle has equalled the number of sixes record in just 443 matches. Both the six-hitting machines had great messages for each other over sharing this world record together at the moment.

The West Indian superstar talking with media overachieving this feat said: “to be able to tie with Afridi with 476 sixes is great. I think I’ll keep it at that & hit no more 6s. I think we’re both big 6-hitters, entertainers & it’s fantastic to be joint first with Shahid Afridi. So boom-boom, don’t worry, your record is safe, okay.” Responding to that Shahid Afridi took to Twitter to congratulate Gayle for equaling the record and also wished him to surpass that record in future, after terming him well-deserved for this record.

No worries at all in the Universe Boss taking over my record! Richly deserved, hope to play a single wicket match with you one day, let’s see who hits more 6s and there should be no rules for getting OUT! ?@henrygayle https://t.co/WxEaUhKjgY
