Abandonment of domestic animals is illegal. In New York State it is punishable fine or a year in prison. However, it’s hard to catch someone who merely slows down and tosses a cat alongside a country road or leaves a box of kittens some where. The pain and frustration of abandonment is hard to live with. Many cats who have suffered neglect have lost all trust in humans. Their brains are saturated, blocked, broken down.
Here is a beautiful story of a very special kitten named Porg. The poor kitten was left alone in a cardboard box on the porch of a woman in Chicago. Luckily, found by a kind hearted woman.
The kind woman happened to open the box, she was startled to see an abandoned kitten inside. The kitten was not tidy and in a bad condition. small, with just 1 pound weight. He also had a large wound on his neck and huge big eyes. She was worried, so immediately took the kitten to her vet for medical treatment.
It was a different environment for the little kitty, he was shy at first, but just in short time he became friendly and playful. He adjusted in his new home. The vet Elise Hall decided to adopt the little kitten until he is ready to be adopted. She named him Porg after a Star Wars character who also has giant eyes. He is really cute and gets attention of people around him.
Elise noticed that he was scratching his ears or neck that left large marks on the skin, and after proper examination they found out he suffered from a genetic condition called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. It affects mainly skin in these animals. The involved skin is thin and flexible with easily inflicted injuries resulting in wounds and scars. Then Porg often wears clothes that help a lot in protecting his skin and making him feel more comfortable. Now he is easy and roam around every where.
